ON FORGIVENESS

On Forgiveness:

Forgiving I have learned is not a one-time thing. Often you will feel as if you have totally forgiven someone and then certain things trigger you which brings the hurt all back and then you have to use all your methods of bringing forgiveness into your heart again.

My first method of forgiving is to realize that who ever has hurt me has done it mainly out of ignorance. Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." NIV Luke 23:34

My second method is to envision that person as an innocent baby and realize that whatever happened to them in life had a great effect on the way they are as adults and that I cannot judge them because I did not live their life.

So there are times that I have totally forgiven and there are times when the hurt comes back and I respond with anger but I have noticed in life that as you continue to practice forgiving that particular situation it gets easier and easier to forgive until one day there is nothing left to forgive.

Of course unforgiveness never really affects the person who hurt you, it really only affects yourself and so it is freeing yourself when you can finally let go. I'm sure we all know the phrase, 'unforgiveness is like a poison you drink while hoping for someone else to die.
