50. 8 MEDITATIONS OF MARY
50. 8 MEDITATIONS OF MARY by Indira and Kurtis Noro
Each meditation will end with a verse that you can repeat to yourself for one minute or you can contemplate the meditation.
1. The Visitation or as the theologian Dr. Matthia Longone calls it - The Recognition
Luke 1:41-44
"When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy."
Mary as Elizabeth recognized that you were the mother of her Lord help our world recognize your son as Lord and you as his mother.
Repeat the last verse of each meditation.
-Mary you have given me joy by bringing your son to my heart.
2. The Flight to Egypt
Matthew 2:13
"And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him."
Mary, you and Joseph and our Lord were refugees so you know what it is like to have to flee.
- Mary, l flee from the evils of the world to you.
3. The exile from Nazareth Luke 4:21
When Christ in the synagogue of his youth states: Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing refering to the fact that he is the Messiah. The response was: Luke 4:28 So all those in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath, and rose up and thrust Him out of the city; and they led Him to the brow of the hill on which their city was built, that they might throw Him down over the cliff. Then passing through the midst of them, He went His way.
This humiliation of Our Lord caused both Our Lord and you Our Lady to be cast out of your hometown, never to return to live there again.
-Mary steel me when I am rejected.
4. The Wedding in Cana John 2:3
"When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
Mother, you have shown us your eternal authority by being Christ's mother. You have the authority to ask of Christ so then you also have authority over me.
- Mary help me to do as you wish.
5. The Washing of Christ's Feet Luke 7:45
Jesus says to Simon:
"You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little." Then Jesus said to her, "Your sins are forgiven."
Mary help me lower my pride, the sin of all sins. Make me like Mary the sister of Martha who mimics you his mother in the washing of Our Lord's feet.
-Mary conquer my pride
6. At the Foot of the Cross
John 19:26
"When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home."
Mary I wish to let you into my home and my heart to be my mother too.
- Mary be my mother too.
.
7. The taking down of Christ from His Cross. John 19:38
"Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders. With Pilate’s permission, he came and took the body away. He was accompanied by Nicodemus, the man who earlier had visited Jesus at night. Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds. Taking Jesus’ body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen."
Oh mother you not only had to suffer as your sinless child died, but you had to hold his battered body.
-Mary hold me in my darkest hours.
8. The Crowning of Mary in Heaven
Rev 12:1
"A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head."
Mary your suffering was rewarded with a crown of glory. You are The Spouse of God, The Mother of God and the Immaculate Child of God. Through you we reach the risen Christ.
- Mary my mother, I look forward to seeing you with your son in full Glory.
