THE INCREDIBLE BENEFITS OF FASTING

Fasting is an ancient tradition in many religions. The Israelites used it as penance to express to God sorrow for their sins and enhance their prayers. King David gives us an example of this in second Samuel 12:16. Catholics are supposed to practice fasting once a week on Fridays but during Lent they are encouraged to do so more often. Fasting once or twice a week on a regular basis is very beneficial here are some reasons why:

  1. It is good for your health - it cleanses your body and gives your digestive system a rest. Also you become more sensitive to salt and sugar so you naturally eat less of these.

  2. It helps you to keep trim - it adjust your stomach size, helping you to eat less.

  3. Food becomes tastier after fasting - your taste buds are more sensitive.

  4. Your empathy increases - as you experience hunger your thoughts turn to the less fortunate in the world.

  5. It saves you money - you don't have to pay for fancy diet plans and you save money on your grocery bill.

  6. You may become more charitable - you are saving money which can be used to help others.

  7. You become more appreciative - fasting makes you aware of how blessed you are to have the option to fast and not to be in a time and place where hunger is no choice.

  8. It can help make you a better lover - because fasting helps you to keep trim you may feel more confident in yourself a more confident person is a more passionate lover.

  9. Intimacy may become more enjoyable - this is because your senses are more keen during and after fasting.

  10. Your powers of self-control increase - by learning to control your food intake you can take more control over other aspects of your life as well.

  11. You become more in tune with your spirituality - fasting helps you to focus on the Divine, bringing you closer to Divine.

  12. It unlocks the supernatural - you can offer the sacrifice to the Divine to show sorrow for your sins and add power to your prayer requests.

Of course fasting from food is not for people with food disorders or those who are on restrictive diets. They can fast from other things such as social media, TV, smoking etc. It is most important to practice kindness, justice, mercy and faithfulness before thinking of fasting.
